Dr. Shelley Newman, graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College in 1990. After spending a few years in small animal and exotic practice in Toronto, she returned to complete her graduate degree in anatomic pathology. Her first employment was as a clinical instructor at the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine. Following that she returned to Guelph, to perform poultry and fur bearing animal pathology as a staff pathologist at the Animal Health Laboratory. Following that, she moved to NYC where she was a staff pathologist at the Animal Medical Center. This is where here base of surgical pathology and oncologic pathology developed. Four years later she moved to Knoxville, Tennessee to join the faculty at the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine, where she was for fourteen years. She moved through the ranks of assistant, to associate, to full professor, taking on leadership roles such as Associate Department Head, Residency Coordinator and Anatomic Pathology Lab Director. After leaving Tennessee she spent a short time in higher education administration before opening her own pathology consulting business, Newman Specialty VetPath last fall. She currently provides support for several pathology labs, and provides locum services at colleges of veterinary medicine.
