Skilled Pathologists, Quality Lab

We are excited to announce SpecialtyVETPATH’s expansion into the realm of research and discovery pathology! Our pathologists are all diplomates of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists (ACVP) and have extensive experience in toxicologic pathology, drug discovery and development, animal models of human disease, comparative and experimental pathology, and mouse phenotyping.

By combining the high quality laboratory work that our clients have come to appreciate with the years of collective expertise offered by our anatomic and clinical pathologists, we provide our clients with a unique collaborative research experience.

Services We Offer

Toxicologic Pathology

Hazard determination, toxicity identification, and risk assessment are essential components of the drug discovery and safety process. Our pathologists are available to help design and to evaluate non-GLP toxicity and safety studies. They have a wealth of experience working with a number of different laboratory animal species including mice, rats, rabbits, hamsters, dogs, and non-human primates. With this experience comes a thorough understanding of the strengths and limitations of each species and strain. This knowledge is critical for both study design and the accurate interpretation of results.

Mouse Phenotyping

Fully understanding your mouse model is critical for maximizing the utility of each mouse life - accurate knowledge of histomorphologic phenotype provides critical knowledge about disease processes and results of drug discovery and hazard identification. All too often, descriptions of genetically engineered mouse models are reported in the literature with broad statements, such as that the mice appeared behaviorally and morphologically grossly normal or that pups survived to adulthood. Statements such as these neglect more subtle and/or slowly progressive histologic lesions that may not have easily recognizable gross morphologic or behavioral correlates. By investigating your mouse model’s histomorphologic phenotype through gross necropsy followed by evaluation of H&E stained tissue slides, your team members can be assured that they truly understand their mice.

Proof of Concept and Efficacy Studies

Proof of concept and early efficacy studies are fundamental to the drug discovery pipeline, ensuring that animal models are thoroughly evaluated for efficacy, and novel compounds are screened for potential toxicity. Proper interpretation and thorough analysis of these studies by a pathologist well versed in experimental rodent pathology is imperative for the drug development pipeline to run smoothly. Our pathologists have extensive experience evaluating a myriad of proof of concept and efficacy models.

Clinical Pathology

Clinical pathology services provided by SVP include cytopathology, bone marrow and blood slide review and differentials, and interpretation of hematology, serum chemistry, and urinalysis data. We can also assist with quality assurance and quality control program design, and establishing reference intervals for your specific strains. Clinical pathology results can provide valuable insight into potential organ toxicity of a drug, or otherwise guide results interpretation.

Laboratory Services

Reliable, efficient, and experienced laboratory services are essential for accurate diagnostics and maximizing value. SVP laboratory technicians are trained and managed by pathologists, to ensure attention to detail, optimal techniques, and consistency. Trained, dedicated laboratory staff are required to support  pathologists, and SVP has some of the best technicians around.
